Celebrating the Six Months Launch of Ramp Your Voice!
by Vilissa Thompson, LMSW
Today marks the 6 months anniversary of Ramp Your Voice!’s creation! These past six months has been completely amazing. Ramp Your Voice! has received such a warm welcoming from the disability rights and advocacy community, and is picking up momentum with each passing day.
Here are a few milestones that occurred over the past six months:
Received several emails from those who desired to share their stories as people living with disabilities, and/or are striving to improve the conditions of those with disabilities in their communities.
Connected with several disability advocates who have shown so much support to the work that Ramp Your Voice! was established to achieve.
Had several conversations with disability advocates, those who lived in America and abroad, who are trying to initiate their own unique niche within the disability community.
Received support from several influential social work professionals and prominent social work organizations.
Was granted the opportunities to discuss disability-related topics, and why Ramp Your Voice! will be a true game-changer in the disability advocacy movement.
The creation of several social media platforms for Ramp Your Voice: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Reddit, and StumbleUpon.
Having the articles shared and recognized by so many, both those I know, and many more that I do not.
This is just a short list of what has taken place since July 19th, 2013. I am forever grateful for each and every new supporter and encouraging word I have received since I began this journey.
For 2014, I plan to bring you more that will propel Ramp Your Voice!’s mission even further, as well as allow spotlight the experiences of fellow disability advocates.
Here is just a small list of what to expect this year:
Allow disability advocates to be guest bloggers on the Ramp Your Voice!’s blog. Sharing the stories of women and people of color with disabilities will be a particular focus of mine this year.
Allow parents to share their stories about raising and caring for children or adults with disabilities.
I also plan to begin organizing and writing an empowerment book for parents of children and adults with disabilities. My hope is to have the book published by May of next year.
Develop helpful and informative resources for parents with school-aged children with disabilities that I hope to launch in the fall.
Establish a social media campaign to recognize Ramp Your Voice!’s first year in July.
These are just a few projects I have in the making that I am eager to bring into being. I cannot emphasize enough that none of what I have accomplished, or seek to achieve, would be possible without your support. All I ask is that you continue to rally beyond Ramp Your Voice! in 2014, and beyond.
All there is left to say is… THANK YOU!!!!! - Vilissa
